It’s a little confusing that when one removes the User list on the left side of the default login screen through a registry setting , there is no way at all to logon to a different user than the last logged out – regardless that there are other user accounts, including the Administrator, in good condition.

And regardless that Windows Repair options provide a command line which apparently requires signing into the Administrator account which I did, several times with my Administrator password.

I say apparently because almost none of the command line utilities to manage the pc will work, even after changing to the original c: directory “X:” is the working location where the command window opens and the Path points to this drive and updating the PATH to include original system files. In particular, even after signing into the Repair command box as Administrator, Regedit did not reach or would not change my registry.

This doesn’t seem right for a repair process after the admin as been authenticated by password. It’s way more than confusing, it’s extremely frustrating to find that Settings functions have been castrated by the change in the logon screen making it impossible to enter an admin password for those many settings which require admin privilege.

This really looks like a big ugly bug. While in Repair Mode, drive X: is a virtual drive. The real Windows system drive is C:, D: or E:. When one removes the User list on the left side of the default login screen through a registry settingthere is no way at all to logon to a different user than the last logged out. After signing into the Repair command box as Administrator, Regedit did not reach or would not change my registry. To modify the real registry you would need to manually load one of the physical hives System, Software, SAM.

That is a BUG. A bad one, to my mind, if you’ll forgive my presumption. Somebody else is going to have to do the next Windows machine set up after this – if any. The system is pretty, but the booby traps are just disappointing. Can’t find any way to log into a valid Admin account with a good password on a running system with no operating issues.
