Cannot configure Marvell Yukon 88E for Gigabit Ethernet Post by Yankee » For the last two days I’ve been struggling to get gigabit ethernet working on my server. I’ve tried everything I can think to do to no avail, so I figured I’d drop by the debian forums to get some professional input I’ll begin by detailing everything that I can remember that I’ve tried, and finish up with the output of uname , lspci , lshw , etc.

So, I can rule out a bad switch or cables. Through the course of troubleshooting, I’ve redownloaded and reinstalled Debian and made sure the md5 checksum of the. Tried removing and reenabling the sky2 kernel module. Tried stopping and starting and restarting the Debian networking service. I attempted to compile and install the kernel module provided on the Marvell website, but I couldn’t figure out how.

For all the years I’ve been using Linux, I’ve never been able to compile and run anything from source. My experience with this NIC module was no different. I tried running the script included with the driver download, and it output various errors. I get one error to go away, the compiler gets a little further, and then hits another error, and on and on. The most interesting results came from trying mii-tool and ethtool to change the settings on the NIC itself.

Please let me know if it works for you. You just don’t understand me. I tried to install from that ppa on both debian and ubuntu, both failed with identical errors. DKMS tries to compile and hits the same compile errors from when I was trying to compile it by hand earlier today.

No dice. But thanks for the idea, it was worth a shot. You might have noticed that in the PPA there are listed specific versions of Ubuntu. Guess why? But reverting to an earlier kernel or switching to a different linux distro is out of the question. I use debian for specific reasons, and I should have no reason to compromise on that.

As for headers, I have headers installed for my current kernel as well as my current kernel source. I’ve had them since I was trying to compile the modules from Marvell’s website. Maybe I need different headers.

I have no idea. There’s no other way to get a sk98lin driver unless you compile it yourself. All you need is The Linux kernel source. No additional files required.
